District admn orders advance arrangements to deal with monsoon

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 6th Jun, 2026) The district administration has issued instructions to complete comprehensive

arrangements to deal with the monsoon season and possible flood situation in Lahore.

In this regard, a meeting was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner

Muhammad Ali Ijaz in which officers of all relevant departments participated.

The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner General, Additional Deputy Commissioner Finance, Additional Deputy Commissioner Headquarters, representatives of WASA, MCL, RODA, Rescue 1122, Anhar Department and other institutions.

The meeting reviewed a detailed strategy to deal with the potential risks of river and urban floods. The Department of Anhaar and Ruda gave a briefing on the status of protective barriers, while WASA and Metropolitan Corporation Lahore (MCL) informed about the cleaning of drains and drainage measures.

WASA officials said that the agency has 617 de-watering sets and 134 disposal stations.

On the other hand, MCL presented a plan to keep 70 de-watering sets in 9 zones of the city on high alert.

A comprehensive plan for water rescue and emergency relief operations was presented by

Rescue 1122 in the meeting, while 139 trained volunteers of Civil Defense are ready to deal with any possible emergency.

According to the district administration, 38.95-mile-long protective barriers are being continuously monitored on the riverbank. Security arrangements have been completed for 35 villages located along the Ravi River.

Furthermore, 65 relief camps have also been allocated in advance for immediate assistance to the residents of the potentially affected areas.

Deputy Commissioner Ali Ijaz directed that all safety and administrative measures should be completed before the onset of monsoon. He also directed to keep the District Emergency Control Room active 24 hours and maintain effective communication between all institutions.
