Commissioner, RPO review security arrangements for Muharram

BAHAWALPUR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 8th Jun, 2026) A meeting of Divisional Peace Committee was held at the Committee Room of Commissioner’s Office

under the joint chairmanship of Divisional Commissioner Irfan Ali Kathia and Regional Police Officer

Ghazi Muhammad Salahuddin to review security, administrative, and public facilitation arrangements

for Muharram-ul-Haram.

Addressing the meeting, Commissioner Irfan Ali Kathia stated that all necessary arrangements for

Muharram had been finalized across the division and that every possible facility would be provided

to mourners and participants in religious gatherings and processions.

Keeping in view the ongoing heatwave conditions, the Commissioner announced special measures

to protect mourners from extreme temperatures. He said that cool water mixed with rose essence

would be sprayed along procession routes to help reduce the effects of the intense heat. In addition,

the Punjab government will establish dedicated cooling camps and cold-water distribution points

(Sabeels) along major procession routes to facilitate participants.

The Commissioner urged members of the peace committee, the business community, and representatives

of various schools of thought to play an active role in promoting religious harmony, tolerance, and

peace during Muharram-ul-Haram.

He informed the meeting that Deputy Commissioners of all three districts within the division were

maintaining continuous coordination with district peace committees, licensed procession organizers,

and representatives of mourners to address their concerns and ensure smooth arrangements.

He directed all departments concerned to complete and fully secure all preparations before the

commencement of Muharram.

Commissioner Kathia emphasized that Bahawalpur Division had historically been a symbol of

peace and coexistence and expressed confidence that this tradition would continue. He also

directed Deputy Commissioners to issue identification cards to members of district peace

committees to enable them to perform their responsibilities more effectively during Muharram.

Speaking on the occasion, Regional Police Officer Ghazi Muhammad Salahuddin said that all

available resources would be utilized to maintain security and law and order during Muharram.

He informed participants that district police officers were personally inspecting procession

routes in their respective districts to ensure comprehensive and foolproof security arrangements.

The RPO also appealed to the trader community to cooperate with law enforcement agencies

and assist in maintaining peace. He requested business owners to facilitate security efforts,

particularly through the use of CCTV cameras installed at commercial establishments whenever

required.

The meeting was attended by Divisional Peace Committee members Syed Mujeeb Roshan Gilani,

General Secretary of Anjuman Hussainia Al-Waizeen Ehsanullah Rahat, President of Anjuman

Tajran Hafiz Rao Khurram Saleem, President of the Central Milad Committee Muhammad Abdul

Razzaq Shaiq, Imam and Khateeb of the Central Eidgah Muhammad Ahmad, Mufti Abdul Latif,

Makhdoom Syed Zumurrad Hussain Bukhari, and other committee members.

Deputy Commissioner Bahawalpur Syed Hassan Raza and District Police Officer Bahawalpur

Rana Abdul Wahab attended the meeting in person, while Deputy Commissioner Bahawalnagar

Zulfiqar Ahmad Bhawn, Deputy Commissioner Rahim Yar Khan Zaheer Anwar Jappa, and

members of the respective district peace committees participated via video link.

The meeting concluded with a collective commitment from the administration, law enforcement

agencies, religious leaders, and community representatives to ensure that Muharram-ul-Haram

was observed peacefully, securely, and in an atmosphere of mutual respect, religious harmony,

and communal unity throughout the division.
