Ban on Qingqi,loader rickshaws improves traffic flow on Canal Road:CTPL

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 9th Jun, 2026) City Traffic Police Lahore (CTPL) on Tuesday said that traffic flow on Canal Road had significantly improved following the ban on the entry of Qingqi and loader rickshaws with citizens expressing satisfaction over the initiative.

According to a spokesperson,commuters reported a noticeable reduction in travel time on Canal Road after the enforcement of restrictions on Qingqi and loader rickshaws.

The spokesperson said that no fatal or non-fatal traffic accident had been reported on Canal Road since the launch of the strict crackdown against the entry of such vehicles.

The spokesperson said that the restrictions had been imposed on Canal Road and other model roads to ensure the protection of citizens' lives and property and to improve traffic management.

During the ongoing campaign,action has so far been taken against 2,210 Qingqi rickshaws and 6,187 loader rickshaws found violating traffic regulations.

Lahore Chief Traffic Officer (CTO),Syed Abdul Raheem Shirazi said that loader rickshaws carrying iron rods,steel pipes and other heavy materials posed a serious threat to road users and could prove fatal in the event of an accident.

He said that Qingqi rickshaws had been causing traffic congestion and slow-moving traffic on Canal Road,adversely affecting the smooth flow of vehicles.

Shirazi reiterated that Lahore Traffic Police would continue taking measures to ensure the protection of human lives and improve road safety across the city.
